He walked along with her
What they found, none divulged
But only time would tell.
She asked him for a little loaf,
He gave her bread aplenty.
They broke bread together often; yet
She always went hungry.
He wanted more, he always did
She yearned for quiet and peace,
They justified the distance when
Their opinions never did meet.
They thought alike, friends together
Each others sole companions
The years went by and still they met
With knowledge incomplete.
He asked her for a little book,
A little love, a little pen.
She gave him all that and more;
Two friends who shared their shoes.
